Mann's did a redesign of their on road track.

SC5M

2wd SC was raced on the oval part of the new layout.

TQ'd first qual, 2nd in 2nd qual, still had TQ by a lap.

Chose the inside start position for the main, got away clean into turn one. No problems in the lead until back markers got in the way. At times was in 3rd, then back markers got in the way of 1st and 2nd!!!!

 They finished 2nd and 3rd behind the SC5M.

Spec-R S2

VTA was raced on the road course, qual'd 3rd. Was a foot behind 1st for a lap. Looking for a opening when I got to close to a pipe in a turn, started lap two in last!!!!

By mid race was in 2nd looking for 1st!!! But ran out of time.

The only change from 2 weeks ago, was the move of the Transponder farther forward about 2 inches!

TQ'd 1st qual. Lead 18 of 23 laps. Back marker put me into a pipe then as I tried to get by 1st, stuffed it into a pipe!!!! And Rob got by!!! Made up all but .727 sec's for a 3rd to Jason and Rob.

TQ'd both qual's and drove away for the win!!!!!

Two weeks ago Rob drove my SC5M and wished his Slash drove like that!!!

RC Wish mod'd the Proline Sash chassis from rear motor to mid motor. Plus a few other bits.

Results >>> Rob went from finishing, normally 1 or more laps behind me, to 1.003 sec's in front of me!!!!!!

RC Wish also had a look at Rob's AE Prolite SC RC. Offered some setup changes and chassis mod's. Rob liked them for the first qual, made one adjustment to the front ride height for 2nd qual and he was ready for the main.

Result >>> WON the main!!!!

TQ'd both qual's and had a 1/3 lap lead on 2nd with 3 laps to go, when a back marker put me into a pipe!!!

Made up the lead Johnny had on me. BUT still lost by  >>>>>> point 081 of a sec!

That's 8 hundredth of a sec. Now that's CLOSE!!!!!

Track isn't high grip blue groove like many of the tracks I race on, so the ONLY rear motor racer that I own was prepped.

TQ'd and WON!!!

Last race this thing was total JUNK!

Got the setup out from last years Shriners's race (TQ'd both qual's and won that race).

Had bits of GREATNESS, but needed 6 minutes.

Qual'd 3rd and finished 3rd BUT >>>> 1st and 2nd NEVER lapped me!!!!!!  :-)

During practice this thing PUSHED in the corners like a dump truck!!!!

Changed >> camber, link position, link length, ride height (lowered the front raise the rear).

Last resort changed front tires! Any racer worth their weight in CA knows tires are 90% of a setup.

Changed everything back to start positions but keep the front tire change!!!!

TQ'd both qual's and won the main!!!!

The Shriner's had a 50/50 drawing, had the $20 ticket, gave the $20 back to the Shriner's!!!

We wanted to see some GREAT fall colors to finish the year.

SO >>>>> Back to the Smokies for some fall colors.

The Smokies haven't gotten the rain needed to ensure moisture in the leaves for good color change and the temps have been in the 70-80's. So, many leaves are heat burnt brown. Along the rivers and creeks the trees have fair colors, but the temps are still to high for good colors. We are not happy!! :-(

Wed, went to Gatlinburg Mountain Coaster for a ride. Haven't rode a coaster of any kind since I was 14-15 years old. At 66 wasn't sure if coaster riding was a smart thing for me to do. Had planned to ride and still planning to ride the coasters at Dollywood.

Coaster ride NO PROBLEM!!!!

Gena and I took a drive Thursday into the Smokies planning to go into North Carolina to some overlooks on the south side of the mountains.

===

After we got back from our Smokies visit, Clif and Joy joined us to go to the Island in Pigeon Forge to ride da' Wheel and watch the water fountain show.

Surprised Gena with a run to west TN to be with her youngest daughters and hers birthday, they are just a few days apart. Great weekend!!!

===

Left 5:15am CST Monday, home 6:30pm EST.

Long drive, our bed, our pillows, our pets. Priceless!!!

Great time with family!!! 

A day run to Shiloh Civil War National Park. Have never seen so many cannon's in my life.

On our way to Dad and Mom's in IL, we stopped in Metropolis, IL to see Ft Massac a pre-revolutionary war fort (1757-1764). Lewis and Clark stopped at this fort in 1803 to recruit members for the Corps of Discovery.

We stopped and seen the Superman statue also.  :-)

A GREAT few days with Dad, Mom, Sis and Bro. IL looked good!!!!

We traveled through 9 states, on the journey!

Newred Hobbies (Ocala, FL)

Changed from 4 gear to 3 gear trans. These are suppose to be better. We'll see!!!!

While the trans was apart did the "Fast" stock upgrade to the bearings. Remove the inner race seal on each bearing (6 bearings) to reduce drag.

Changed to a different brand of shorty lipo. This lipo about a 1/16 inch shorter in height and about 1/16 inch narrower than the shorty I was using... Now can move the lipo back into the waterfall brace about 3/16 to 1/4 inch, another tuning option.

Raced SC and 1/10 Outlaw classes.

Had TQ in the first qual, lost it in the second qual!

Finished 2nd by 5 seconds!!

Outlaw

Had the lead coming out of turn 1, was 7th by turn 2!!

Worked up to 2nd, just after half way 3rd got in gear and passed me!! Beat me by 6 seconds, same racer I beat in SC by 5 sec!!!

Rob finished 2nd in 4wd SC and 4th in SC.

Tried to race 13.5 TC BUT the ESC didn't want to, one of the wires coming from ESC to receiver broke! :-)

Was a off road race day BUT to much rain during the week. Off road track was to wet, so they raced on road!!

GREAT time in the Smokies.

Day one. Took Gena to see Cataract Falls, New Found Gap were Pres. Roosevelt made the Smokies a National Park.

Day two. The Sinks, Meigs Falls, and the north bypass over look towards Gatlinburg.

Day three. Roaring Fork Motor Trail, 1000 Drips Falls and MORE Smokies!!!

Surprised Gena with a unplanned stop at Cumberland Fall State Resort in KY.

GREAT rainbows in the mist from the falls!!!

Within an hour after we left the falls we were in London, KY hospital after Gena fell coming out of the door at a gas station. 25 hours later a >> Reverse Full Shoulder Replacement was done to her right shoulder.

May 22 drove to Selmer TN to pickup Anne (youngest daughter), left Selmer May 23, got back to hospital, at 6pm that night Anne assisted in getting Gena in the car. We drove 14 hours to get home >> Ellenton FL.

Anne (ex Army) ran 3rd shift ER in Iraq, she knows how to pack a solder in a Humvee to get them back to ER.

Ever have one of >>> those days <<< !!!!!

Practice went fine JUST FINE motor 132 after 12 laps, so I changed the motor timing from "O" to "10" advanced >>>

First qual was running 2nd, still getting the feel of the BOOSTED 25.5 when the inside of the TC looked like a NASCAR car with a blown motor. SMOKE!!!!!!!! Thought I had a lipo let go. Motored did a melt down!!!

Odd bit I seen the smoke inside the body moved forward and out around the front tires NOT out the back!!!! Interesting AERO stuff to look into!!!!

Motor was 260!!!!!

Pulled motor and ESC out, put the backup 17.5 system in. Motor is a 8 year old 17.5 Fantom I!!!!!!!

Second lap of warmup of 2nd qual, car did a 180 in the infield. Went to get it, loose front wheel. Got to the start with 30 to go. Lap 5 car did the same 180 but a diff part of track. right rear ball stud pulled out of hub <<<< DID NOT HIT ANYTHING!!!!

Figured I'm in a B-main!!!!! Won that, bumped to A-main started 7th.

Going to make HISTORY in this main, about 4 minutes in.

Go at the tone, 4 cars into the outer wall, I go by in 2nd <<< not bad from 7th. Before I got back to the timing loop was in 3rd. Hey that's not bad, with a 8 year old motor. 3 minute mark got passed, in 4th still not to bad as I just lapped 5th. Here comes the HISTORY moment >>>>> car does ANOTHER 180!!!! Figured I'm broke, walk to the marshal, as I'm checking the car only three wheels will turn, as I turn the "non-rotating" wheel a ROCK falls out and I'm back on the track racing 6 laps down!!!!!!!

In the 10+ years of racing I've NEVER had a rock get inside the rim and lock it to the hub!!!!!!!! WE ARE racing ON ROAD, sealed asphalt, there ARE NO ROCKS on the track!!!!!!!!!!

SO >>>> IF you think you have seen everything and your some RC guru (me), YOUR NOT!!! You will learn something NEW everyday EVEN if you don't want to!!!!!!!

Finished 7th where I started!!

In the lead with a minute and a half to go, SC5M slowed down to VTA speed, a few feet later 2nd a half lap down had a back marker put him into a wall. At this slower speed, got in front of 2nd, who is a lap down now. Thinking I have another motor going bad, just blimped the throttle as I came out of every turn and rolled to the next turn >>>> HOPING 2nd couldn't make up the lap.

DIDN'T know that the back marker had damaged 2nd place and he couldn't keep up with me!!!

A wire came un-soldered from the motor!!!

I did NOT know a brushless sensored motor would run with only 2/3 working!!!!!!!!!!!

St. Joseph Knights of Columbus (Bradenton, FL)

Hobby Marketplace and RC Wish partnered, to make a GREAT day for many kids others then the three who received RC's today.

Kids AND their parents got to see and be part of a NORMAL RC race day. Learn how to drive a RC.

The 5 1/16 scale Traxxas Slashs were provided AND maintained by Hobby Marketplace. They brought their complete timing system with a sound system so the kids and parents could hear lap by lap what was going on!!!

We got along so well >>>>> Hobby Marketplace and RC Wish will partner AGAIN at the next Car Show by St. Joseph Knights of Columbus.

RC Wish provided 2 ECX Boost buggies as award(s) to who won the Kids 2 races, 1 per race.

This young man couldn't qual fast enough for the 2nd race, checked with his Dad, the kid didn't have a RC. HE DOES NOW!!!! :-)

Qual'd 3rd was in first almost to the timing line on the first lap! Was 1 foot short, when I piped the SC5M and 2nd and 3rd got by!!! A few laps later 1st broke, so I got a 2nd!!

TQ'd both qual's, just as the track crew was setting up the "Robby Gordon" jumps they put pipes through the center of the jumps so we couldn't drive around/by the jumps. Seems they forgot >> my racing background is in OFF ROAD!!!

Was looking to lap 2nd place for the 3rd time at the finish!!!

AutoCross, they setup the Robby Gordon Super Truck ramps (3). Wasn't until the 2nd qual (of two in first round) that these are an OPTION!!!!!! Lost TQ by 13 sec.

Didn't touch a jump in 2nd qual, had TQ by a lap!!!!!!

Lead the first lap then  Chris DROVE by me as we passed a ramp!! I didn't think there was room for two!!!

Nice 2nd. :-)

VTA, lined up with a kid. Only two in the class today. :- (

Just before the tone the track director said to the kid to take it easy for a couple laps until he got use to a VTA. At that second, RC WISH rules went into effect. Let the kid go first, don't pass him until he wrecks.

After that qual, he lined up with me in AutoCross, THAT IS WHEN I REMEMBERED HIM!!!! He has been winning on Monday night Oval at da' Lube and had beat me.

2nd qual and the main pushed hard until he was a lap down then backed off and cruised!!!

As Rob was going to race in Jato class, took the GT2-E. TQ'd the first qual. That is as good as it was!!! The main, the rear would slip and the front hook, was able to hold on for a 3rd. Rob make that easy! Slipper mount wasn't working right and couldn't get it to work!!!

ONLY VTA there!!!! They needed another RC to make the 13.5 TC class, SO! :-)

TQ'd both qual's and won the main.

He had problems with the esc thermalling <<< we thought!!!!!

After Rob got home, he found he didn't calibrate the esc to the radio.

With the Trinity D3 17.5 FRIED!!! A Novak 17.5 was installed, set the motor timing to 15 degrees. ESC set  to "Blinky", let's RACE!!!

TQ'd, go at the tone by turn 3 was in the lead and GONE >>>> until I piped it and a marshal was talking to another racer  >>> NOT watching the race. Went from1st to 9th just like that!!!!! Was able to get within 1/4 lap of 1st before the finish.

Was looking GOOD for another win in VTA, TQ'd both qual's.

Out horsed everyone from the start lead for over a minute before touching a pipe that caused the right rear of the Dodge Challenger to come loose from the double stick tape. The body rolled up onto the right rear tire. Down to 4th now. Thought I had the body pulled back far enough DIDN'T rolled up 2 more times.

Finished 4th.

Seen one of the racers I race with was looking to buy a TC3, offered the TC4 to him for the same $$$ as the TC3. ONE less RC in the shed!!!!!!

First on road of the year!!!! SWEEEEEEEET!!!!!!!

Out ran every one to turn one both qual and the main for TQ and the WIN!!!!!

Made one change, the rear was just a bit tail loose. Removed the 1mm spacer from each rear hub link. <<< SWEEEEET handling now!!! And it wasn't bad before, just took two or three laps for the tires to warm up so the rear would stick 100% instead of 98%.

Lowered the Ride Height 3mm front and rear. TQ'd the first qual. Half way into the 2nd qual the motor fried!!!! So, the back up came out!

TC4 <<< da' Backup!!!

Started at the back of the racers, as I didn't qual this RC. Didn't pass a racer unless they crashed! Took one minute of the 8 minute main to get to the front, for the win.

Still not comfortable racing oval with this RC. BUT a 6 of 8 still isn't to bad!!!

Was able to work my way through the other racers, for a 2nd start position and a 2nd over all.

Changed to foams (Green) for tires for the night.

Put  the "Boosted" software back on the ESC.

A buddy gave me a NASCAR COT (Car of Tomorrow) body, thought why not race this body.

They don't race that class!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So, they allowed me to race it in NASTRUCK. <<<
Haven't race oval here in 10 and half months, so1st qual is practice under fire!!!

Was able to get a 6th start placement, felt good!!

Go at the tone stayed, the best I could, out of the way of the leader for a 5th, only 3 laps down.

GT2-E

This is my normal Autocross RC to race on road here DURING daylight!!

Was running 2nd in both qual's, then minute 3 of 4, back markers got in the way.

Started 4th, was in first by the start of lap 3 and drove away!!!!

Decided to be a NICE guy and pit in the pits instead of off the back of the pickup, like I normally do.

Part 1 of a ODD day. (see part two)

As I was unpacking from the pickup to a pit table, noticed that the Spec-R S2 (VTA) wasn't in the back of the pickup!!! Thought about calling Gena, figured she wouldn't want to bring this to me. So, I just went about racing for the day.

TC4

Took the "BOOST" software out of the ESC and  loaded the 508 "Blinky" software.

Drove well, finished well IF you call a 2nd well!!!! :-)

 SC5M

Thought, on road is HIGH traction just like Newred was last week, so!!!!

Lowered the ride height about 3mm more than Newred's setup and changed to different tires front and rear.  Didn't want to wear out the Newred set.

Had a bit of a problem in the 1st qual, started mid pack. Worked my way to the lead by the end of lap one and drove away. 2nd qual lead from the tone.

Lead the main from the tone!!!! That's a WELL finish!!!

As I was packing up at the end of a GREAT day of racing  found  the Spec-R S2 UNDER a SC10 body in the back of the pickup!!!!!!!

Newred Hobbies (Ocala, FL)

Rob has been wanting to go to Newred Hobbies with us for a few months. AND today is the day!!! :-) Rob picked me up at my home and we met Mike at Newred's. Rob had never raced on sealed clay indoor off road track.We went up early to give Rob a LOT of time to practice and get his two RC's
setup for the day.

Rob, Mike and I were in the same Short Course class, in part for why we go to Newred's and in part we have the model of RC.

We lined up for the main  >>> Me, another racer, Mike and Rob and we finished that way.

===

Mike and I signed up for Stadium Truck class, Mike finished 2nd and I was 3rd!

===

It'd 2016 and racing is once a month now, part time racing for me.
