Mann's RC (Ruskin, FL)
Had not planned to race, had been a bit sick. Thinking it a bit of a cold.
Woke up, felt fine, packed up the SC5M for some off road fun!!!!

The problem with racing off road as little as I do is NEVER having the newest/greatest tires of the day for clay outdoor. Tested 3 sets of tires besides the 2 sets that were on the SC5M. By the main was running VP-Pro AXMAN on the rear (had those in the tire box from spring 2011), put some JConcepts Bar Code (Blue) on the front, had just got these for a race at Newred the 12/26/15.
TQ'd both qual's and won the main!!!
Got a bit sick before the mains, dizzy, head pain and upset stomach, eat a bag of chips and it all went away. Guess I was hungry!!! With just 3 classes figured it would be a quick day, not so took over an hour for the computer and timing loop to work, raced the qual took a break and the computer/loop didn't work for another hour!!! Had planed to go to Mcd'd for lunch!!

Odd wheel day, just the start of the day!! Left front came off during the 2nd qual, then the righ front came off during the main!!!! One of the thing I check before going out per race is the nuts that hold the tires on. Never found the 1st nut, found the 2nd, NO threads in it!!!
Started 4th finish 7th of 8!!!

TQ'd both qual's, figured IF everything went right another VTA class win is in the books. :-)
2nd and 3rd got by me in turn two, was just a foot behind 1st and 6 inches behind the 2nd as we went under the timing loop. Moved to the right to pass both of them AND >>>> NASCARED the wall for 20 foot, taking the right front wheel and hub off!!!!!

Some how the timing got screwed up, during both qual!!! Had lapped every one at least two times and I didn't get the TQ!!!!!
Go at the tone, DID and was gone!!! Lapped every one again and the timing WORKED!!!

Got a PM the Chris (owner of Mann's RC) had fell while cutting some tree limbs at off road track. Report >> back broken in 3 places, ribs broken, lung punctured and a concussion. All this happen am morning of 11/30/15. Because of injuries, he had open heart surgery 12/3/15 and came through fine.
Chris is one of the GOOD guys of RC!!!!!

PIPE!!!! at full speed <<< NOT smart on my part!!! New front a-arm.
1st qual started 6th was 3rd by lap 3!!!! Car would not turn, was trying to spin out coming out of a turn and was pushing into each turn NOT happy!!!
2nd qual broke right front hub (PIPE) !!!!!!
Started 4th with NEW Reedy tires front and rear. Finished 2nd lap in first!!!!! By the end of the main 1st had lapped me and 2nd wasn't far behind!!!
So 3rd in a class I seldom race in with a ex-VTA RC!!!

DID I get MORE SPEED! It took 7 minutes of the 8 minute main for 1st to pass me, (he lapped me 2 times per qual). Harold and I fight for 2nd for over 7 minutes then he lost a tire as I passed him.

The week started with a PM from Kathy at Mann's, a KID needed some assist with his HPI Sprint 2. RC Wish to the rescue > Drove up to Mann's and met with his GREAT Grand-dad << LIKE that :-)
Decided that I would take the RC home and do repairs, then :-) return to Mann's Saturday with repaired RC. (While I'm at Mann's returning the kid RC, I mite as will race!!!!!).

After TQ-ing the 1st qual, race director chose to race the ST class as OVAL instead of off road. Only lapped 2nd one time during the 1st qual. TQ'd the 2nd qual by 3 laps!!!
Don't know how many laps over 2nd, lost count!!! For the win.

The surface is HIGH sand dirt AND a SC5M isn't designed to race on that kind of surface. TQ'd 1st qual enough to hold for the 1st start position.
Held 1st all but the last 3-4 feet and Ben out drag raced me to the finish timing line!!!!!!

First race for the SC5M. Felt GREAT!! Jumped, turned and drove straight with all most NO micro steering adjustments.

TQ'd both qual's, was looking good for the win.
Turn 3, 2 and 3 both tried to pass me between the pipe and me. This maneuver rolled me over and into 6th!!! By the start of the back straight was up to 3rd. Then a axle pin (transmission end) left the known world!!! Have NEVER had one of these go bad!!!!

TQ'd both qual's and had a half lap lead on Bobby and was pulling away, THEN 4th chose to NOT let me by BUT chose to race me. Which put me into a wall BROKE!!!!!!!! Hard bit to swallow to see him on the 3rd place podium!!!!!! When he got there by taking out the leader!!!!!

This could be my LAST full time race at Mann's, I will be retired Oct 1, may have to choose between RC or FOOD.!

Was able to TQ the Jato class, AGAIN!!!
Go at the tone, was GONE!!!!!! About minute 4 Bobby went by me, just like he did the last time we raced, so quickly it looked like I was parked!!!!
A 2nd to Bobby is still good!!!

Just flat out ran everyone in both qual's and the main!!!!

Just about have the S2 turning like I need. Now for some NEW tires!!!
Qualified in 3rd, and was able to stay there for most of the main. As the tires started wearing out the rear looseness came back. Started to drive within the limits of the tires going. Not powering out of the turns AND caught up to 2nd, he touched a pipe and I was by for a 2nd.

This is the RC won in the raffle at Newred's. Hadn't planed to race it just do some testing. Acted SLOW!!! Changed battery and it was FAST down the straight, for about 2/3 of the way and it was back to slow!!!!!!!!! Took it to the pit and it would hardly move, sounded like the trans was gone :-(
UPDATE:
At home, checked everything starting from the wheel axle pins to the trans. EVERYTHING is good!!! Put the SC5M back together set it on the floor >> NO GO just the sound of a bad trans. Had the body off so, just picked up the front and powered the motor, nothing just the sound. Pulled the motor apart, the magnet was loose on the motor armature <<< that is a bad motor!!!!
Put the motor esc from the SC10GT-E ready to racein two weeks at Newred's. :-)

Dylan and his cousin, Sam came by for a visit while I was at Mann's. They took the RC Wish RC to the off road track for a bit of fun. Went back to watch, as we walked back to my pit. Asked Dylan IF he was going to get back into RC racing. Dylan is the FIRST recipient of a RC Wish RC. Just as Dylan finished speaking Sam said "I need to get a RC then".
So, I started the questioning and Dylan started smiling!!! He knew what was about to happen, as it had happened to him a few years ago.
Sam received a HPI Blitz complete with batteries, charger, tools, radio, tires and a tub to carry these in.

1st qual was way ahead of 2nd when a wall sucked the GT2-E into it!!! Was able to get within 4 sec's of Luis in 1st. 2nd qual, by the timing line was in front of Luis and drove hard away, NEED a TQ for a clear shot at the first turn in the main. Got TQ by a lap!!!!!
Go at the tone! And I was gone driving away UNTIL Bobby got clear of the pack and ran me down and drove by like I was going the other way!!!!! Happy to keep 2nd!!!

Can not get the rear to stick in the corners, as I power out the rear will swing out! :-(
Started with 36R tires in first qual, NOT good. Changed to 32R for 2nd qual, after two laps took the car off the track, to stay out of the other racers way. Put 28R tires on, was able to get back on the track with one minute to go, needed to test that compound before the main. 28R was WAY better!!
Started in 3rd. Was in 2nd by the timing loop, 3rd at turn 3, held that for most of the main until I touched a pipe and 4th got by.
4th after all the above was GREAT!!!

Cell rang as I was packing, thought it was Gena so I just finished packing up and planned to call her as I left.
It wasn't Gena, it was Newred!! I WON the SC5M!!!!
Now to make the two hour road trip to pickup the SC5M and get some races in!!!

Asked Kathy Mann for a broom for the awards picture after the VTA main. Figured I would have a "Clean Sweep" of the 3 classes I'm in. Just a few moments after asking. Thunder crashed and RAIN!!!!!
So, with the rain out the finishes for the rest of the races where by how the qual where per each class.

3 kids, 3 adults ready to go at the tone. Let the other five have a go at getting around the first turn without me. :-) Pasted the racer in first down the front straight after the timing loop. Powered for two laps then kick back and just turned laps for a 21 lap finish, 2nd had 16 laps!!! Maybe I should have push it a bit!!!!!!
BUT RAIN came!!!
So, NOT happy rained out 3 of the last 4 races!!!!

Raced with Jasmine again. Same race deal, will not pass her unless you wreck and need a marshal or use reverse. Started to RAIN during the qual (first one of the day). Jassy didn't need a marshal or reverse, so I finished 2nd.

Raced with Jasmine again. Same race deal, will not pass her unless you wreck and need a marshal or use reverse. Started to RAIN during the qual (first one of the day). Jassy didn't need a marshal or reverse, so I finished 2nd.

Drove my tail off to qual in 2nd for the main. Had a problem in turn two, Mike and John tangled then I rear ended John. Mike got away, then made a try to out run us. John took 4 laps to get by me then was just a couple feet behind Mike. When two marshal choose to stand up and talk to each other about two feet apart. Mike lost site of his Losi, hit a pipe behind these two marshals and John and I where gone!!
2nd was a GOOD finish!!

Adult SC class (two kids in Novice SC) Rob came to race and TQ'd both qual's and was leading the main by about a 1/3 of a lap. Then a racer we both had lapped 2-3 times took Rob out and I was by for the win!!!

Totally SUCKED!!! Every time turning left the steering would lock for a bit. Didn't know what I was going to do for the main! I was just in the way of the other racers.
Walked by the racers sale table, have a Spec-R S2 now.
Rob gently pushed me into moving the electrics from the XXX-S to the Spec-R S2 (his bad!!!). Only took 15 minutes to make the change.
Lined up for the B-main, by turn two had a 20 foot lead on 2nd, finished 4 laps in front of 2nd. Went to the pits changed battery for the A-main. Go at the tone, brakes where set to high and RC would spin out when applied. Drove carefully for 8 minutes for a 5th place finish.
Broke the right front out drive two laps from the finish, RC pulled hard left under power. Parts should be here by Friday, so it can be raced at "da Lube" Saturday!!!

In IL on vacation, thinking may race at WS in Paxton Sunday. Started raining Friday (5/29) didn't stop until Monday afternoon!!!!! So a trip to Eli Field (Monticello) Saturday didn't happen, went to Slot and Wings in Champaign to see what they had on the shelf's. Got a bottle of Trinity "Red Dot" and two bottles of "Buggy Grip". Priced at $9.99 and $3.95 per bottle, figured good deal until, I went to pay. Guy said "$3.00", I said "are you sure?" "Yes, $3.00". SWEEEEEEET!!!!!

Raced good, but had a problem with the steering it would not work at times so drove careful. Notice that the right front tire was leaning odd!!! Two laps from the end a marshal took my car off the track!!!!! Stated my car was broke, DUH!!!! I knew that for almost 8 minutes!!
Still had enough laps to keep 4th place finish.
Steering problem was a missing screw in the right front hub.

A young lady signed up to race in SC class and was going to race a Traxxas 1/16 scale RC. RCWish loaned her a HPI Blitz for the day. She got better every lap!!!!
She finished only ONE lap behind me!!!

Jato class, Bobby TQ'd the class, was able to qual in 2nd. Was within 10 foot of Bobby during the mains first couple laps, was thinking I had a chance at 1st. Then, Bobby started putting down some very smooth laps and had a 1/2 lap lead on me. CRASH!!! The sound of two RC's at speed coming together is something very distinctive. Bobby and another racer came together between turn 3 and 4. His motor, nitro powered, died and I was by for the lead and the win.

Geared up by two teeth on the motor, the Reedy 3300 sure is a torque-ie motor!!! Was able to stay with Bobby until I hit a pipe!!! He took the TQ and 1st, me 2nd was SWEEEET!!!!

Two weeks ago at "da Lube" motor came off 190 after a 6 minute main. So, two teeth smaller motor gear and set the motor timing back 8-10 degrees.
TQ'd and won* by 3 laps!!!

First time to race this RC on road. Put AE TC4 Blue springs front and rear, Stadium truck tires front and rear AND 1/4 inch spacers in the shocks (Front and rear), 1/2 inch spacers on the outside of the shocks.
At the track during practice, set the left front camber to 1 degree positive The left rears camber to 0 degrees. Before the main put a 1/4 inch preload spacer on the right front shock to load that corner more.
How did the SC10GT-E do, TQ'd both qual's and won the main by five laps!!!!! May race this next week in Jato class!!!!

*XXX-S in VTA class, BOTH of mine raced by me at the same time!!! How did I do this. Easy, sold the backup XXX-S with the 1970 Mustang body to Rob. He didn't have a transponder so I loaned him one of mine. I TQ'd both qual's and won the main, at the same time I (my other transponder) was finishing behind me in both qual's and main. The mains sheets showed Rob and I as Terrance I and Terrance II
To make things even more fun some day, I now have THREE transponders so I (transponders) could finish 1st, 2nd and 3rd!!!! :-)

Off road weekend, not sure if I want to race off road, thinking about possible rain!!
Tires from last month wasn't working during practice, track was to wet from the morning fog. Put Turbo Trac's on front and rear (think there "soft" compound). Worked well during the first qual, BUT not 100%!!!!!
Go for broke! JC Bar Codes (Gold) front and rear. NEVER had this tire setup ever on a RC! HOOKED UP!!! Could power into, thru and out of a turn like never before.
Qual'd 5th, finished 5th, thought I was higher up the group, then found out I had passed the same SC three times!!!!!! Well, it was upside down once!! :-)

The effort to race one class in off road, is like 3 classes in on road. Pick the right tire tread, the right rubber compound, the right radio setting and the CLAY dust on everything!!!!
On road >>

Mod TC 32 or 36 tires charge battery then race.

No problems, just tiny bits of tuning. One >> loosening the drive belt a bit to reduce belt/bearing load/drag. Cuda drove better during the A-main, enough to set fastest lap 13.9 sec!!! Finished 2nd.

Race Control made a change to autocross class. 3 ramps, autocross is like Robby Gordon's Stadium Truck races!!!
How did this go >>>> Qual's same as the GT-E TQ'd both qual's and was in the lead for 10 laps (half the race, winner had 20 at the finish). Two turns before the timing loop for lap 11 GT2-E rolled to a stop! No power!!!! Moved the power wires and there was power BUT I'm two laps down. There is still time to maybe get into the top three. THEN I forgot about the front ramp, hit it at full speed, this killed a shock and the GT2-E was done for a 4th.

Didn't get the right tires on until the main AND didn't do my ritual >>> checking the axle nuts before getting on the track lost the left rear then the right rear!!!! Was able to hang on for a 3rd!

Changed to rear buggy tires on the front from 4wd buggy front tires and geared up two teeth on the pinion.
Missed TQ by .2 of a sec!!!! Was 10-15 foot behind TQ starting lap four, passing a back marker hit a pipe and took the right front link loose took six laps to fix, got one lap back for a 5th.

Lap two of warmup before the 1st qual, hit a pipe, took the left front wheel off.
Lap three of warmup before the 2nd qual, hit a pipe (same spot!!!!), took the left front wheel off.
Go at the tone, started in 7th, was 4th by the end of turn one and was looking for the racer in 1st!!!! Was able to get by 3rd before 1st and 2nd lapped me!!!!! A 3rd is just SWEEET in my first OVAL race.

GT class, IF it doesn't fit any other class it fits in GT class. 1st qual, coming out of turn two hit a RC BEHIND a turn marshal!!!!
Line up 4th in the B-main, was in 2nd by the end of turn one, by half way 1st was on my tail, which I was thinking I had got by him a couple laps earlier (there are a LOT of wreaks in OVAL racing it seems) and was just ahead of him!!! Winner bumps up to the A-main, watch him come from 9th to first in 10 laps!!! Then got hit by a back marker, he was able to recover for a 2nd.

Update on the TC4
Even though the TC4 raced good it still was acting odd at the start. Did some checking today, bottom start software is bad from the hubs last Sat, took the motor, senser wire AND esc out. Took 3 months of looking on ebay and RC Tech to get these!!!!!

Lap three of warmup before the 2nd qual, hit a pipe (same spot!!!!), took the left front wheel off.
Go at the tone, started in 7th, was 4th by the end of turn one and was looking for the racer in 1st!!!! Was able to get by 3rd before 1st and 2nd lapped me!!!!! A 3rd is just SWEEET in my first OVAL race.

GT class, IF it doesn't fit any other class it fits in GT class. 1st qual, coming out of turn two hit a RC BEHIND a turn marshal!!!!
Line up 4th in the B-main, was in 2nd by the end of turn one, by half way 1st was on my tail, which I was thinking I had got by him a couple laps earlier (there are a LOT of wreaks in OVAL racing it seems) and was just ahead of him!!! Winner bumps up to the A-main, watch him come from 9th to first in 10 laps!!! Then got hit by a back marker, he was able to recover for a 2nd.

Update on the TC4
Even though the TC4 raced good it still was acting odd at the start. Did some checking today, bottom start software is bad from the hubs last Sat, took the motor, senser wire AND esc out. Took 3 months of looking on ebay and RC Tech to get these!!!!!

What a mess! Both rear hubs over heated and rounded out, BUT the bearing are good!!!!!!! Because of the added drag, the Losi 13.5 motor fried!!!

Had a bit of a problem in first qual of VTA, tires weren't working 100%, still TQ'd BUT worked way to hard for the TQ.
New set of tires and 2nd qual was way better, TQ'd it!
Go at the tone, first into turn one and was gone!!!

Running out of foam tires so changed to rubber tires.
TQ'd both qual's and was first into turn one, JUST like VTA and was gone for the win!!

Sunday update on the TC4, senser wire is bad from ESC to motor. Replace that and install a Speed Passion 10.5 motor. Still acts a little off but just at the start.

GREAT to be with OFF ROAD racer friends!!!!!
Same as always, TIRES!!! What tread, what compound, sauce or NOT, so many bits compared to On Road!!!
Waiting for the groove to build, IF it does Proline Calibers M3 on the rear should work. Qual'd 4th, groove was on and I'm in 3rd looking for 2nd, when a CVD ball at the diff was twisted off. Finished 7th!!

I just can't get a handle on, on road oval. Trying to many bits to get the GT-E to handle finished 5th.
Mike came to me and asked what I did to the GT-E cause during the first qual I was better than the other 4 racers!!! Told him I put the oval setup on it, had the on road set up for the first qual. He asked "What was you thinking?" put the on road back on!!!

Was the only Mod to sign up, so they put me in Spec 13.5 class.
TQ'd the class was leading by almost a lap at the seven minute mark, then Luis got in gear and next to the last lap passed me!!! In one minute he made up a lap on me!!!

First VTA race wth a 25.5 motor, got it on ebay for less than 50 shipped. OH, it's a Speed Passion V3 25.5.
Mike (same Mike in GT-E report) TQ'd, I started in 2nd. The odd start placement at Mann's is 1st starts on the outside of turn one instead of on the inside. IF 2nd can get the jump at the start 1st is on the outside AND will be in place to have the rest of the racers run into them. :-)
Was into and out of turn one as Mike was trying to get free from the pack. 2nd (Brad) never came close after three laps.

Missed the a-main by 3 sec, TQ'd the b-main. Had a two lap lead on 2nd by minute 5 of 8 and backed the TC4 into a pipe. Didn't try to finish, didn't have the parts AND only one bump up!!!

Was at FZRC Raceway today for my 500th RC race.
Looked good in Mod SC main until the 2nd turn. 1st and 2nd tangled at turn two, was looking to slip by on the left, hit a pipe joint, took a front link loose, was almost two laps down by the time Mike got me working again (Mike did a quick fix, with Jim doing 20+ sec laps in 1st it doesn't take long to be down milti-laps). Was able to get a lap back and was 2.6 sec behind 4th at the finish. Nice come back!
